That's the joy of the english language. For what it's worth, it was intended as being akin to Laplace or the PSO weapon "Bravace", but I'll admit it's not necessarily clear (and yeah, "Rinzece" is pretty terrible, but we had no idea what to do with it or Rinze Drahda).

FUN FACT: Our favorite cyclops enemies in ruins could have the exact same name in english--"Cyclonada" could be pronounced saiclonayda (english pronunciation of "cyclops") or kyuklonahda (greek pronunciation of "cyclops"--if you've read the katakana, you'll note that Elysion is spelled "eryushion", same thing). Japanese pronunciation puns don't work in english, it's very irritating.

(Minor note: I suspect it's "Beevrath" or something, from beetle+wrath, but that looks rather daft. SEA wasn't helpful, this name wasn't in the files yet, and Goldrahda was still named "Cockroach")

Dark Falz "Loser" has to be the dumbest translation I've seen so far.

[敗者] can also mean:
[(The) Defeated]
[Vanquished]

As always, lazy translation.


The new Dark Falz's name is a pun. He is called Dark Falz [敗者]. This kanji literally means "failure person" or "one who loses or has lost". Though it could be rendered as [The Defeated] or [Vanquished], it's most common translation is "loser". When this kanji is read in the game, it is pronounced ルーサー. This is how the NPC Luther's name is written, because (spoilers) he is Dark Falz Loser. However, the word "loser" can also be written in katakana as ルーサー (although ルーザー is more common).

So, the pun is that Loser and Luther are all but identical when written in katakana or pronounced in Japanese. While the enemy itself is named Dark Falz ルーサー (Luther), we have chosen to call it Dark Falz Loser, so as to preserve the pun. Likewise, the soul is Loser Soul. This is, in our estimation, the only way to preserve the pun in English.

So there you have it. Feel free to resume whining about things you don't fully understand on PSOW instead of directing the comments to us here. (Who am I kidding, none of these people read this thread.)

Alternatively, in keeping with the 'loser' name, Dark Falz PSOW

I think the biggest issue we (or at least I) have to face now is that we've been so used to just calling Elder "Falz" for so long and now we have to differentiate which Falz we're talking about. My keyboard muscle memory is going to fight me so hard!
Also I quite like the ring of Dark Falz: [Fallen] myself. Unironic puns are stupid.

Just wanna add that in the post-Falz Loser cutscene one of the NPCs actually calls Loser a loser (specifically a copycat loser), the implication being that the name is apt. If we had gone with Dark Falz Luther, that comment wouldn't have made as much sense.
