PSO2 jp running on Ubuntu

I'm sure PSO2 will get a US version some time this century. Meanwhile there is a patch and this is the forum where you can discuss it and get help with issues.

PSO2 jp running on Ubuntu

Postby gogeta » Sat Feb 16, 2013 6:30 pm

...or any other version of linux for that matter... can anyone confirm this? I haven't had the means to test it out for myself for a long time, but would like to see if anyone else has had the opportunity and can confirm this to be a working thing. I would definitely like to see this working on something like ubuntu in the future, especially when the "steam box" comes out.

Last I checked PSO2 doesn't work under Wine or anything like that. However, it might be possible with a Virtual Machine using Xen (or maybe KVM?), as I hear it's possible for the virtual machine to access the host machine's hardware, achieving nearly native performance.

Here's a guide that claims showing how to do something like this, but with Fedora as the host. This guide is a little outdated though (it shows install instructions for Fedora 16) and it's a little unclear since it looks like he made a dual-boot of OS X and Fedora or something. So be cautious.

Long story short, unless Sega explicitly makes a Linux version don't count on it, as PSU was barely able to run on Linux.

Does Wine still have issues with Gameguard?

Wine will never work with Gameguard. Also games in a VM are most likely not running as fast because the VM's drivers suck.

Yeah, I tried installing with ubuntu and wine. The game installs but when you try to run it, game guard doesn't work and the game won't start. If there's a way to disable game guard entirely then you might be in business.

PlayOnLinux is just fancy GUI front-end for Wine, so if it doesn't work there it won't work with PlayOnLinux.
