I found a way to play Phantasy Star Portable 2 Online

Postby bloodythunder » Sun Sep 16, 2012 4:45 am

SEGA shut down the Phantasy Star Portable servers a while back, all of em. Well I know of a way to play with other people around the world with the AdHoc mode on the PSP. However this requires 2 things.

It requires Custom Firmware for the PSP, and it requires something called Prometheus Online, but it's not exactly called that.
1.)What you do is install custom firmware. For example, I'm on 6.60 Pro-C. There are plenty of guides on how to do it online, a little googling and you'll be good to go. (this is the link to where you can get them http://code.google.com/p/procfw/)
2.)You need Phantasy Star Portable, be it 1, 2, or 2 infinity. (This works for other AdHoc games as well, but this is for my fellow Phantasy Star Portable lovers.)
3.)Download http://forum.prometheus.uk.to/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=23 depending on your CFW, but it must be Pro type.
4.)Follow this setup guide for it. http://peacewalkerelite.forumotion.com/ ... hoc-online
5.)Once you've successfully done all this, enter AdHoc mode, and either form or join a party, the game will freeze for a few seconds, and you will be transfered to an online server where others can connect.
6.)Have fun.

If this worked for you, bump this so others can join and play.

P.S.) I don't really know if this is in the right forum. If it is, and an Admin finds it worthy, please sticky :) I'm doing this for my fellow gamers.
P.S. 2) You can go to this link to see if anyone is playing in AdHoc mode, or even waiting. It doesn't show status, just how many are online. http://www.prometheus.uk.to/status/

One final note. Doing this will void your warranty, this is completely up to you.

However not everyone has a playstation 3, nor the compatibility for Xlink Kai. This just allows you to play it from your psp, connecting directly through your router.

NA PSP2 is still up, I just went on a while ago to check. I'm glad it's still up and I hope Sega will keep it running, with only a dozen or so players online at any given time it's not like it's costing them anything to keep it up. Compared to PSU with billing systems to worry about etc. If they do close it down, it should be easy enough, as in this thread, to at least still be able to play through a tunnel with ad hoc. There is some peice of software in the works that currently supports a few other games that will do just that, afaik without any changes to the psp. I'm sure eventually they will try to get psp2 supported, and that will be our last option unless a server emulator is made for psu or one of the portables. Honestly I don't really care if you can actually play the game at all, I would just like to be able to start up some server and have my friend connect to it so we could chat in the lobbies together.

Don't wanna go bursting anyone's bubble but i know ColdBird, the person who makes PRO Online, (he's an avid phantasy star portable fan) and I can tell you for a fact that none of the Phantasy Star Portable games currently work with PRO Online's AD HOC feature (though other games like god eater burst or metal gear do work very well). It's a compatibility issue he's well aware of, and is working to fix.

Also, here's the new address: http://pro.coldbird.uk.to/status/
