Ultimately I support them because it's preserving a game that would otherwise disappear forever when the servers eventually close. MMOs are the only kinds of games that you cannot archive, due to the server software never being released in nearly all cases.

Were it not for private server software, PSO would now be gone forever. As much as I dislike the game, it was a pretty historical thing, being the first console MMO, so it would have been a shame to have lost that.

As for PSO2, the official servers haven't even gone live yet and no one at egs is planning to make a private server for it. This doesn't mean that the beginning work that'd be needed to make one hasn't happened (decrypting game files), but in this case I think someone else would have to do the work needed to finish it off if they wanted.

I agree but why waste time making a private server for a game that might be coming out the point of EGS private servers for PSU is because PSU English PC is shutdown.

Not to mention the most common reason for private servers (no monthly fee) is out the window since PSO2 is pretty much freemium.

I'll be checking things during the open beta, but from what I've seen during the closed beta it looks like PSO2's protocol is very close to PSU's, so it's a much better solution to start making a good PSU server and then convert it to PSO2.
