GTX 260m ... I LOVE you :D

Postby Rikku » Sun Apr 15, 2012 12:12 am

So I'm running around with my ASUS G60VX (P7450 processor, GTX 260m GPU, 8 gigs of RAM, etc etc ...) and I realize that it's still so hot ...

I decided today would be the day to re-apply thermal paste to my GPU. I got it just very translucently coated on my GPU's core, and put my heatsink back on.

Before, my GPU would just idle at maybe 70c with nothing on it. Now it goes up to 110c idle before completely shutting down my laptop on me ...

I'm using Antec's Formula 7 thermal paste. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I made sure my paste was pretty translucent.

lol even after a max-preset underclocking, it still only goes down to 80C. Enough to continue using it without it catching FIRE. But it's still WAY hotter than it should be.

Maybe you should get a better cooling system.

Heres a good vid I found on thermal paste application:

I used it when I had to apply some to my CPU when I built my computer.

Realizing there was dust INSIDE the fan case (almost invisible), I sprayed some dust off in there. I'm praying this fixes my issues.

My fan is spinning WAY faster now, and I can feel the airflow.

You just use a can of compressed air and spray it into the air vents or something? I guess don't have to worry about it right now since this laptop is pretty new, but IS that how you'd go about cleaning a laptop fan out?
